BaseNaija covers Nigerian and African music, artists and the numbers behind the industry, including estimated streaming earnings, stats and insights. This page explains what little data we collect and how it's used.

What We Collect

When you search for an artist, we log the search term and a running count of how often each artist is searched, this is what powers the "Trending" list on the homepage. We don't attach searches to a personal identity; there's no account system on this site.

Cookies & Local Storage

We use your browser's local storage to remember a single preference: whether you've chosen light or dark theme. Nothing is sent to our servers because of this setting, it stays on your device.

We also use a third-party web analytics service (Statcounter) to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they view. This service may set cookies or use similar technologies to collect anonymous usage information such as pages visited, referring site, browser and approximate location.

Advertising & Third-Party Cookies

Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads and to collect and process information when you visit this site. These ads may be based on your visits to this site and to other sites on the internet.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to BaseNaija and/or other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. To learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the site or ads behave.

Third-Party Data

Stream, view, and follower figures shown on artist pages come from third party platforms and data providers (Spotify, YouTube, Audiomack, and similar). We don't share your visit or search activity with these providers, we only query them for public artist-level statistics. The only exception is the analytics and advertising technologies described above, which are operated by third parties under their own privacy policies.

Contact Form

Our contact page opens your own email client to send a message directly to us, so anything you write there passes through your email provider, not our servers.

Changes to This Policy

If how we handle data changes meaningfully, we'll update this page and the date above.
